Now that SUPER7 ONE OFFS is just two days away, please anticipate the flood of custom reveals. Let's start with LEECIFER's, who also happens to be the curator behind the show this year. I like Big Sal/Batman who seems as if it is trying to slink away from a Super Friends advertorial pose which Fire Robo came with a conveniently forgotten fire on top of its head. Attention whore some people. :P

Then it's NEBULON5 with two Rose Vampires and a Zagoran. If you guys remember, I was just raving about his awesomely blended POTATO AND CHERRY TOMATOES ARGUS. I'm in love with the Roses, especially the Antique Rose Vampire. TAKE A BETTER LOOK HERE. I'm still thinking if I should add one to my collection and if I do, I'll get Nebulon5 to custom one for me :)

Saving the best for last, we have VALLEYDWELLER with the first Garuru and Steven custom this season! He made a pretty big impression with his MCMEGADUNNY and with these latest customs, he has certainly secured a place on my artist-to-watch list! Every piece strikes such a beautiful resonance that I am actually glad I cannot be there this weekend. Not that I can be on any other weekends. :P If I may boldly venture and say this, I think Garuru is the sexiest thing I've seen so far. Oh, and Big Sal actually reminds me of VASH STAMPEDE FROM TRIGUN.

More One Offs! Troy Stith and D-Lux!

If you have been following Troy Stith on FLICKR, you would know he has been playing around with his air brush. And also he took a NICE HOLIDAY IN WINTER WONDERLAND. How nice was it? About ten pages worth on Flickr. :P I want a holiday too but I gotta wait out till April. Meanwhile, I will pretend to be on one while looking at his snow cone inspired Milton. It's rainbow so it's auto-love. I like how the colour graduation extends to the feet, something which I would lazily and mightily ignore if it was left to me. For the locals, snow cone is the equivalent of our ice kacang, except in a cone. :P

And moving on to D-LUX who I think has been undeservedly under the radar for a while now. He has been very active since his SOLO EXHIBITION AT SUPER7, churning out customs for his ONLINE STORE and the ongoing MONSTER PARTY AT DRAGATOMI. I guess out of the trio of Patty Power, Visighost and Fire Robo, the last is my favourite. If anyone finds the Visighost a tad familiar, that's because it seems like it is his platform of choice. There's one ON SALE AT DRAGATOMI AS WELL.

SUPER7 ONE OFFS is just 3 days away and what is a customs show without some reveals! Starting with DRILONE unmistakable signature style on a trio of Super7 Monster Family - VISIGHOST, FIRE ROBO and MONGOLION - as well as a David Horvath X Gargamel sentai inspired kaiju SUPER PUNCHER. The vintage rusted feel goes exceptionally well with the Mongolion, in my personal opinion but my vote goes to Super Puncher for being what it is. :P

Next is another custom on Fire Robo with a great literary tribute to Fahrenheit 451, a novel in which 'presents a future American society in which the masses are hedonistic and critical thought through reading is outlawed.' You can read up more on the WIKI ENTRY. Mikie Graham/zombiemonkie turns the figure into Guy Montag, the protangonist in the cautionary tale of censorship. Guy is certainly a book burner, capable of torching William S Burrough's seminal work Naked Lunch with incendiary eyes. Follow HIS TWEETS!

And to round off this update on the custom show is Bob Conge/Plaseebo with some mind-altering mashups. Introducing Vampoloctopus, Gargazilla and Rose Vampire Ghost Tank. Of particular note is the usage of LED lights in Gargazillar and Rose Vampire Ghost Tank. I just like saying Gargazilla. :)

Don't forget that it's all cash and carry this Saturday 29th Jan!

NEBULON5. You'll probably think I'm fussy, on top of being a prude, when I say this: I'm only really impressed by one out of the lot. What I am not saying is this: they suck. Because the colour transitions on most of them are executed with a precision so incisive that, collectively, they are wonderfully cohesive. But, the colour theory, when appreciated individually, shows a need for refinement and tightening.

MOAR?Collapse )

Which one is your favourite? Check out the rest of his stuff at his FLICKR and the rest of the DCon stuff HERE!
